Welcome!

Briefly, I am a high school English teacher who is also a writer/publisher. Harris Communications (formerly Ariane Publications) is the company co-author Susan Thompson and I founded to publish and market the Hero's Journey curriculum, which we spent about five years developing. While Susan has gone on to pursue other interests, I still run Ariane by myself.

Naturally, as a (very) small publisher and full-time teacher, my resources are limited. This web site is my way to tell you about using the Hero's Journey pattern to teach literature, film and writing.

Besides being a place to discuss the Hero's Journey, I hope this website will be a place where we can share ideas about mythology, symbolism, education and teaching, and other related ideas. Please feel free to make comments and share ideas.

The Hero's Journey is a powerful tool for teaching students about literature, film and life. Please take a look at the idea, even if you don't purchase our curriculum. Bookmark this site and come back often. I'll be adding new material regularly, and hopefully other teachers will be sharing ideas, as well. And, please, let me know what you think.
